Lourensford Market: Your Weekend's Entertainment Sorted

From Friday night's Twilight Market, when the trees are draped in fairy lights and people gather to ease into the weekend, until super-chilled Sunday afternoon, this family-friendly market has a lot going for it. Even your pooch is welcome, as the market has a dedicated Doggie Bar.

To start with, the layout is rather nifty. Food, craft, and fashion stalls are arranged in a horseshoe shape around a communal eating area lined with benches. It's a lovely contemporary-rustic space to sit down for a meal, enjoy some wine or craft beer, listen to live music, and soak up the atmosphere.

Dog-friendly? Yes (on a leash)

Good to know Entry is free but parking costs R10 (waived if you buy any of the estate's wines). The market is pram- and wheelchair-friendly. There are two ATMs on the estate, and vendors accept cash, card and Snapscan payments.

Times Friday 5 pm - 9 pm, Saturday + Sunday, 10 am - 3 pm

Neighbourgoods Market

Founded in 2006, this market arguably spearheaded the farmers' market scene in Cape Town. The aim was to revive public markets as a civic institution, and the atmospheric Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock was chosen as the place to do so.

A weekly platform for the top street-food chefs in town (alongside local farmers, fine-food purveyors, bakers etc), it's still one of the city's top hangouts.

Tuck into tacos, Cape Malay curry, paella, shwarmas, West African jollof, mussels, steak and stout pies, churros and more while listening to live music.

Good to know There's secure parking at College of Cape Town across the road, for R30.

Opening times Saturdays, 9am - 3pm, Sundays, 10am - 4pm
